“It Is What It Is.” But What Does That FEEL Like?

White steps

My Elephant Hunter Book Series takes you on adventures in the organizational wild™, trekking through the underbelly of organizations to reveal secrets to the human side of change. To do this, The Elephant Hunter takes you on adventure after adventure, hunting, tagging, and tracking, every imaginable elephant in the room. For the only way to comprehend the human side of change is to reveal the blind spots we protect to prevent change, to protect ourselves, to revere the status quo for our perception of the security it represents for us individually and for the organization as a whole.

It is not the status quo that is evil and destructive, it is the idol it becomes to those who mistakenly worship it. In our hearts, it is what we all unwittingly do from time to time. “It is what it is,” we often say as we dismiss the situation unceremoniously. But what does it feel like to live and work this way?

My transformation adventure was spurred on by admitting to myself that it feels like crap to live this way. This is far from the adventure I want to live. This is far from the potential to help and do good that is possible in a lifetime. There are so many people researching and writing on the facts of this matter (yay!), but only you and I know the actual feelings that accompany those facts. I am honor-bound to tell that story, to share the real adventure of what it’s like to be on organizational safari™, revealing the emotional adventure which is our workaday lives in the wild and woolly world of work.
