“
There is a heat signature in every room. It is mobile and massive. This temperature can’t burn but the motion can trample and the tusks can pierce. Assumptions are not safe; expectations are at risk. Follow my journey as I take you on safari through the jungles of organizational life, hunting the evils of suppressed truth, hidden in plain sight. You know what it feels like to be with an elephant in the room. How this entity was created and methods for disarming the handlers that trap these creatures are only part of what will be revealed. For identifying the elephant in the room is not the end of the hunt, it’s just the beginning."

Foreword
I write this book in honor of and in service to all of the great thinkers, keen observers, gutsy speakers, faithful doers. To support those who responded to a vision—who walked the narrow path to follow it—I write this book with hopes of unsticking the thinking that keeps many more of us from benefiting from their efforts and offerings. But make no mistake, this book is for you who have yet to step out of your comfort zone and speak up.
As an elephant hunter, I study fear and fight for truth. I write this book to help you who have learned from those I’ve mentioned (and the many others out there with wisdom and tools to share), but don’t, won’t, or can’t apply them on the fly and at the speed of your real life. I write, too, for those who don’t know these voices but are thirsty for even a drop of what they have to share. I’m not here to add to their findings. I just aim, tag, and track the elephant in the room that keeps us from hearing truth, seeing truth, and speaking truth in organizations.
Why are we still not applying the proven, effective and efficient knowledge and tools that already exist? Why do we doggedly try to create even more? From this elephant hunter’s point of view, it is our own crap that gets in our way; others’ crap gets in their way; and then the organization and community combine this crap into collective piles of their own. I do not blame them. My role is not to blame or teach. I am no guru, educator, thought-leader, executive, or entrepreneur. I simply hunt the elephant in the room in order for you to cut through the crap…right at the source. This is my story.

This book is a lighthearted vehicle for the difficult discussion of meaningful and relevant organizational “elephants in the room.” The author covers topics that focus on specific industries, but really resonate across industries, disciplines, and hierarchies. Difficult organizational topics include bias, toxic personalities, shared values, fear, and even sexual harassment, along with many others. By reading this book, you’ll recognize situations that may have been toxic, identify ways to call out the elephant in the room, and gain tools to track the way you think of and tackle these difficult situations.
Stacie Morgan hit the nail on the head on this one and I couldn’t stop connecting each field case with situations within my own work experience.
Such a unique, story-telling way to convey meaningful information. Well done!

This book shows a wealth of insight into the dysfunctions of the workplace. I’ve seen many of them first hand during my 39 years in large technology companies. This book will be a genuine ray of hope for those who have a deep desire to make their workplace function better--and be a fun place to work as well.

Organizations for the most part have traditional environments, clicks, traditions, and hierarchies that go unchallenged, until now. Book 1: The Elephant Hunter, Speaking Truth in Organizations by Stacie Morgan breaks the status quo with a clever approach to exposing, and challenging what most either cannot do, or are afraid to do, that being the metaphorical Elephant in the Room. This is not just another leadership book, it is a revolution for organizational leadership that identifies the threat to organizational morale and efficiency, and presents solutions to eliminating the threats. This is a must read for anyone wanting to break the status quo, adapt to an ever-changing organizational environment, and lead into the future.

I especially like the idea of offering this to college and graduate students. While everyone is aware of these “elephants,” this will help students look for it in their workplaces and in their research before they’ve become jaded.
