Let Go to Grab Onto

Complex (aka “organizational”) change can be led but it starts within each individual. Seeds are planted and nurtured, but we each need to take a personal leap of faith, or trust, or guts. You usually have to let go of something to free your hands to grab onto something else. Unfortunately, this almost always means you have to admit something to yourself that you’ve been avoiding, denying, or afraid to acknowledge. Bummer.

For my transformation journey, I had to let go of my identity as a consultant—it no longer fits me. With it went my old website. It is sad, for I liked it, and it represent three decades of my life. But it was no longer serving me or really, you. I’m far from done, though. It’s just time to pivot. And this is something for you to remember about change of any kind.

There is always a pivot point in every change initiative—what actually stays the same. This is how you anchor people and comfort them through uncertainty.

My certainty in my own transformation is my vision of a life, workplace and world in which we have hope in the future—in our own future, our organizations’ future, and the world’s future—inspiring us to enjoy giving our best every day to make that future a reality.

The change is how I will go about achieving it. In fact, I will still employ the same strategy, which is (all together now) #cutthecrap! Follow me (Connect!) on LinkedIn as I unpack the whys, ways, and wherefores of my Cut-the-Crap approach so when you lead change, you can help your people think about it as “unbecoming what you’re not”!
