I AM The Elephant Hunter

Week 24

I AM The Elephant Hunter. Although the protagonist of my upcoming book series is fictional, it is biographical fiction. What transpired is true and the process is real. For all of the business of business, organizations are incredibly emotional entities. How could they not be, they’re made of people! The whole #employeeexperience—from the front line to CEO and BOD—is about people, no matter how much time is focused on products and services.

New champions for people are on the rise and trending (e.g. Brené Brown, Adam Grant, Simon Senek, and Dan Heath) and Crucial (Patterson, Grenny, McMillan, & Switzler) as well as Fierce Conversations (Scott) are agreed to be necessary. But how much traction do these excellent and data-driven insights get when the individual blind-spots are not recognized and owned? You see this every day, in meeting after meeting. Well, after 40 years in the field, I am opening my personal notebook to share my protagonist’s elephant hunting, tagging, and tracking experience. It is an emotional adventure that I’ve placed in a context more appropriate to what it feels like, sounds like and smells like (!) from YOUR point of view. This is what I call “the underbelly” of organizations. This is the dark and steamy jungle of individual and collective emotions that hide and struggle to survive while camouflaged in plain sight. This is where organizational truth, hope, innovation, creativity, and organization fit are trapped, thwarted, or forced to hide.

I can’t stay silent any longer, its time I let my better half free. Follow The Elephant Hunter on Twitter and Instagram.
