Yearning For Something More...

Week 2.png

Transformations are inspired from within. While outside forces can create the urgency for change, transformations are called forth by a deep yearning for something more…

…more satisfying

…more meaningful

…a more authentic use of one’s natural abilities enhanced by experience and expertise.

I have this yearning, and am at the “if not now, then when?” point in my life. So (SPLASH!) I’m diving into a new endeavor and (SPLASH!) I’m taking you with me! It’s going to be sporty. Who knows what will happen or where we’re going. But it will be real, meaningful, and satisfying for both of us.

I want to share with you what I have learned over the past…uh...decades. I've seen a lot in my journey through the organizational wilds. What I have discovered must be shared. Thus my decision to focus exclusively on my writing. Follow my adventures and you'll see why. It has been quite a ride. Off we go!

For starters, so many people have come up to me wanting to be a consultant like me…like I was, that I'm going to start off my transformation adventure explaining the reality of the situation. Our first nut to crack: Why so many want to be a consultant but so few want to hire one.

The consultant taboo is that using one implies you and/or your organization are out of your depth, weak, in trouble, and heaven forbid, need help. Well, I’m sorry to say that most organizations do need some sort of help and one of 2 things all too often happen:

1. Organizations have the ability to help within their ranks and refuse or don’t know how to leverage it and so they DO hire a consultant. This, of course, ticks off and demotivates the employees who really could have helped for a lot less money; or

2. Decision-makers bury their heads in the sands of obliviousness or denial and DO NOT hire a consultant.

Either way, the greater good is screwed. Now what? Stay tuned.
