Your Perspective Matters!
So yeah, I did leave you hanging last week. Sorry about that…sort of. Did you have a bit of a think on the needs of organizations and what they are actually willing to do about it? I hope so. It is key to the transformational journey we’re on. No matter where you are in your organization’s hierarchy, you’ve probably experienced a time when someone else was viewed as an expert on your job, to advise you. Maybe it’s your boss or a senior colleague, or even the dreaded consultant (wink). How did that feel? Uncomfortable right? Well, learning often is, but my point is yet to come. Putting egos aside, these folks did/do have a perspective that is different from yours and therefore provide new and potentially useful information. Okay. Are we done? Is that the point? Nope. Not at all. Stick with me, I’m signaling a lane change. Here we are.
What was/is missing from that typical organizational interaction? YOU. Your capabilities. Your perspective. Did you forget? Your vantage point completes the scenario. What the others learn from you is also critical to the organization’s health and growth. Huh!
If I am an example, then let me tell you truthfully, I became a consultant because of this precise point. I wanted to be heard and for you to be heard too. I wanted to close this gap in organizational thinking. So how did I do? I’ll get into that, next time.
