Feeling Useful

White brick wall.

Feeling useful isn’t about keeping busy or doing what’s asked of you. It’s about knowing that what you do is valued and contributes to a larger purpose. Organizational vision, mission, goals, objectives, and tactics, are supposed to do this for the organization. They don’t, though. And this blind spot has consumed the business world to such an extent that it often feels like today’s organizations can hardly string an aligned strategic plan together, let alone communicate it in a way to really leverage all of its potential for harnessing its internal people-power. Whose fault is this? No one’s…and everyone’s. We’ve become so political, politically correct, tolerant of what we should not be, and excluding anything which makes us uncomfortable, that we’re forgetting how to learn unless tragedy is thrust upon us.

No one is immune to this…not me. And so my transformation adventure intertwines with #MyCutTheCrapAdventure (on LinkedIn), #MyOrganizationalAdventure (on Twitter and on my protagonist’s Instagram), and my protagonist’s #OrganizationalAdventures (on Twitter). Facing MY blind spots and embracing all they have to teach me is my ongoing transformation adventure. Uncovering and validating YOUR experience of those we share together is what fuels #MyAuthorAdventure. (See more on Instagram and in my upcoming book series on The Elephant Hunter.)

Join the adventure by speaking up when things don’t make sense and start brushing up against your integrity. Your organization will be better for it in the long run. It is THE most USEFUL contribution we all can make.
